Hiking Trail Description
The Prentjiesberg is a spectacular mountain range. It is reputed to have its name derived from the San paintings in the numerous overhangs that occur along the escarpment at different altitudes. Prentjiesberg has magnificent rock formations, sheer sandstone krantzes, indigenous forests and stands of proteas. The catchment area includes rock pools, sponges, underground streams, waterfalls and torrential streams. The mountain is also the habitat of the threatened Cape Vulture. Blesbuck, mountaind reedbuck, and Burchell’s zebra have been introduced to the reserve. A section of the trail passes through the Blackwoods Natural Heritage Site. The trail has two or three-day routes.
